Cupcakes, Sprinkles, and Girlfriends

Hey my lovelies,

Have you ever asked yourself what is the true definition of a friend?  I mean a real friend, not just your “party friend” and certainly not your “behind your back throws your butt under the bus ass friend.”  Well, my darlings I have pondered that thought one too many times…Sigh. So here it is in living color:  The definition of a friend is a person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. Friendships are like diamonds they are pretty, mean everything and should be hard as a rock, like a diamond. Bonds should be unbreakable, meaning even if you fall out or have a squabble no matter how long it takes; you should come right back together if it were meant to be. Girlfriends should be able to tell each other everything and should not have a fear of being straight to the point and being honest. When you find one of these friends, you should hold on to them dearly. Girlfriend relationships are the best, and you should know how meaningful they are without taking them for granted.

I say that because, at one point in my life, I had a warped concept of what a genuine friend was, and I considered almost every darn body, my friend. My mother always told me when I was growing up that you could count your friends on your one hand, but I never believed her. However, now as an adult, I totally understand what she meant, and now I have my own greatest hits collection of friends (that aren’t many) but that I value and whom I can totally count on. Given that, I want to keep this fabulous collection of friends, and I want to cherish them, as you should your own friends. One way I can do that is to make sure that that we stay connected. So sometimes we have to take the time out of our busy schedules and meet up with our friends and connect with one another. Phone calls are great but even if you reach out via text to say, “hey girl, hey” or send an inspiring quote to make her day would suffice.

I had lunch the other day with a very good friend of mine; her name is Farrah. It was such a lovely experience, and we had so much fun. We went to Five Guys restaurant first and munched on greasy burgers and fries (sans the buns because we were trying to lose weight-hah!). We didn’t want our visit to end, so before we headed back to our grind, we decided to try something new. We went to a small bakery by our job that was secluded behind a park. I was glad that we did because I was delighted and low and beheld my calorie count went straight out the window to the nearest trash can.

My girlfriend and I devoured these delicious cupcakes.  My favorites were the lemon ones with sprinkles and Farrah’s favorites were the vanilla ones with chocolate icing and sprinkles. Then we upgraded and we each had slices of cake. Farrah had the strawberry shortcake, and I had the chocolate crème cake. Yum! Conversation and laughs over sugar were the perfect mix for some friends catching up. Friendships are, and many times, they are necessary for our emotional well-being. So, what about you? What friend would you like to catch up with soon and have that warm feeling of closeness for someone you like and trust? Remember guys have their bro’s, and we have our girls. Hun, make the time for your girls. Sometimes you don’t have the time to go somewhere with them physically so give them a call and sit back with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and take pleasure in bonding with one of your besties even over the phone.  Trust me it will do the mind and the spirit “good” but don’t forget to have sprinkles!

Love always!
