3 Ways To Help You Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions


Hey guys, 2020 is upon us, and most of you are all pumped up with a list full of New Year’s resolutions so you can kill it this year. However, after ruminating over this, let’s be real, most of the time our New Year’s resolutions sometimes fail. It’s strange how by January 27th these goals conveniently disintegrate right before our eyes and you think…


Statistics confirm that usually by February your January resolutions have probably flown the coop leaving you hopeless again with your head hung low by Valentine’s Day.  That’s right we fall back into our rut; into a cycle of doing the same thing over and over again which is called insanity per the great Albert Einstein.




Corny right? Well, okay. I was hoping to prove a point.

I’m saying all this to say, let’s make sure you can keep your goals and resolutions in the New Year. So, let’s get cracking and reconstruct the next steps to correctly get ahead in 2020. First, what’s on your list?  Write it down. Always, always write your dreams, goals, and aspirations down.

Therefore, your New Year’s resolutions list may look something like this:

  1. Get a new Job
  2. Focus on yourself
  3. Make more money & save
  4. Start a business
  5. Lose weight /Gain weight
  6. Eat healthier
  7. Find your soulmate
  8. Go back to school
  9. Get a new car
  10. Keep my New Year’s resolutions (the most important one -DUH)

The list above is a typical resolution wish list for the average person. After you write it down, you vow to crush your goals and make this your best year yet. So, how do we do that and keep our wishes and resolutions? How do we take this fresh new year captive without giving up or succumbing to our guilty pleasures which usually leaves us high and dry? View the three ways below to learn how to keep your resolutions.

The three ways to keep your resolutions and obtain your goals are the following:

  1. Be Realistic
  2. Start Small
  3. Believe in yourself


  1. Be Realistic. The reason why this is number one is that one of the top reasons you fail when it comes to obtaining your goals is because you set the bar too high for something that may require more time, money or more of the energy that you don’t have. Therefore, you should set goals that are more attainable in your life. For example, you may have in your mind that you want to start your event planning business because this is your first love. However, then you also want to start your photography business and open an eclectic, affordable fashion boutique shop in your neighborhood, but the goal to do this is within the first three months of the year. This is a major burnout. Miracles can happen, and things can get done but planning like this can be overbearing, and nine times out of ten you will lose focus on the second and third things, and you might not be able to get everything up and running by March. Therefore, if you take a more realistic approach and plan your goals and stretch them across the year by prioritizing, you will have more success.


  1. Start small. Baby steps people. This is not quite the time yet to puff up your chest and say, “go hard or go home.” That saying is powerful, yes, but effective when keeping New Year’s resolutions? Well, not all the time. Studies have shown that when we take small tiny steps to our goals, and we achieve one thing, it gives us this power for us to want to achieve more! Martin Luther King, Jr. once famously said,

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, take the first step.

Let’s take a person who wants to lose weight and get fit. On January 2, you may say to yourself, “I am throwing out all the bad food in my cabinets and refrigerator, and I am eating like a rabbit for the whole month.”


“I won’t do junk food for three months, or I am strictly doing the Keto diet. I will also be in the gym five days a week and will take weight loss pills to aid the process.” No, no and no! It will not work. You must take baby steps and start by saying to yourself that you will try to ear healthier day by day. You can also vow not to eat junk foods for one week, and you will try to go to the gym two times a week or one time a week as opposed to trying to jump out the gate and work out five days a week as some articles state. It is more effective than “going hard” then burning and crashing. Take the small steps and work your way up to making more significant actions and success will follow.

Do yourself a favor and start so small, achieve one good thing and take that success and set another goal. Then, after you have picked up that momentum and maintained it “go hard or go home.”

  1. Believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, you will fail, and this is the law. Loving yourself and giving yourself a real chance is the way to get things done in your life. You should like you, honor yourself and respect yourself to be where you want to be in life. So, when you make your new year’s resolutions keep in mind that you must feel it deep down inside and believe that you can get this done. It must be within because if you don’t have this magic you won’t be able to achieve your goals and that can make you feel horrible, and I want you to feel good about yourself!

The moment you believe in yourself the negativity, and the darkness disappears, and you will be able to fulfill your destiny. Always remember how you feel about yourself will determine how far you will go in life and whether you will accomplish your goals and resolutions.
